Modern Moroccan art at the Mohammed VI Museum in Rabat
The first major museum built in Morocco since independence, devoted to modern and contemporary art, with changing exhibitions.
- Best timeAny time of year; a good plan for the hottest hours of the day.

Why go
Opened in 2014 in central Rabat, the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art was the first major museum to open in Morocco since independence in 1956. It presents modern and contemporary art through temporary exhibitions and works from the national collection.
It is an easy way to see how Moroccan artists have worked with abstraction, signs, materials and memory over the last century, and a good counterpoint to the historic monuments of the capital.
What to expect
An indoor visit of one to two hours depending on the exhibitions on show. Programmes change several times a year.
Our advice
- Check what is on before you go: the museum is run by the Fondation Nationale des Musées, which announces its exhibitions.
- We did not find current official hours or prices online; confirm them before visiting.
- It is a good choice for a hot afternoon or a rainy day.
Advice from our editors, not official rules: check opening times and conditions locally.
