Morocco’s capital on the Bou Regreg estuary: the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Hassan Tower, a UNESCO-listed modern and historic city, and major cultural festivals.
Rabat is the political capital of Morocco, facing the Atlantic and its twin town of Salé across the Bou Regreg river. In 2012 UNESCO listed “Rabat, Modern Capital and Historic City”, which brings together the medina, the Kasbah of the Udayas with its blue-and-white lanes, the unfinished Hassan Tower and the 20th-century city planned around them.
Calmer than Casablanca and greener than most Moroccan cities, Rabat hosts large cultural events and is a pleasant base for a weekend of heritage walks, museums and the riverside.
