Around Chefchaouen
Blue medina · Rif mountains · Walks
The blue town of the Rif mountains: a small medina washed in shades of blue, mountain trails and a calm pace far from the big cities.
Founded in 1471 in the western Rif, Chefchaouen is known around the world for the blue-washed walls of its medina. The town is small enough to explore on foot, from the kasbah on the main square to the spring of Ras el-Ma at the edge of the old town.
The surrounding mountains offer walks and day hikes, including towards the Akchour waterfalls and the Talassemtane National Park. Chefchaouen is usually combined with Tangier, Tetouan or Fes.
