Inside the Hassan II Mosque on the Atlantic

One of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslim visitors, on guided tours, set on the ocean’s edge with a minaret about 210 m high.
- Meilleur momentMorning tours are usually less crowded; the esplanade is at its best at sunset.
- Comment ça marcheSur place, librement : rien à réserver via MoroccanPlans.
Pourquoi y aller
Completed in 1993, the Hassan II Mosque stands on a promontory over the Atlantic in Casablanca, its minaret, about 210 metres tall, visible from much of the city. It is one of the very few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslim visitors can enter, on guided tours held outside prayer times.
The tours show the scale of the prayer hall and the craftsmanship gathered from across the country: carved cedar, painted ceilings, marble and zellige. Afterwards, the vast esplanade by the sea is a good place to watch the light change, especially late in the day.
À quoi s’attendre
A guided tour in several languages, lasting around an hour, for which a ticket is paid on site. Visitors are expected to dress modestly (arms and legs covered; women are often asked to cover their hair) and to remove shoes inside.
Nos conseils
- We could not find an official online schedule: tour times change on Fridays, during Ramadan and on religious holidays, so check on arrival or with your accommodation.
- Many websites resell tours; you do not need an intermediary to buy a ticket at the mosque.
- Come back to the esplanade at sunset for the view, even if you toured in the morning.
